AXIAN Open Innovation & Fintech at a glance
As the first-ever mobile-banking platform in Madagascar and the Indian Ocean, MVola melds technology and finance to accelerate financial inclusion for all. Launched in 2010, MVola is now the lone mobile-money operator in Madagascar. In 2020, the company launched its first VISA international card, meaning MVola is now accepted for payments worldwide.
Launched in 2010 in Madagascar, MVola immediately became a success through the simplicity it brought to its users' day-to-day lives—all from their mobile phone. Still a leader, MVola launches in Comoros as the first-ever Mobile Money Operator on the island with the same goal of making life simpler, but now for Comorians. MVola Comoros is an innovative solution that allows users to transfer money from their Telma mobile phones. This service was geared from the start towards those who do not have conventional access to banking.
Launched in 2020, Free Money in Senegal is the new national money-transfer utility allowing any Free subscriber to send money to loved ones across the country—regardless of the receiver’s mobile network--, pay bills and even withdraw money. In 2021, Free Money launched the Free Money Mastercard to bolster financial inclusion across Senegal.
As the country's first-ever mobile-banking platform, TMoney gave the Togolese the ability to complete simple, fast and secure transactions (deposits and withdrawals, transfers countrywide, bill payments). TMoney is also a key partner during the pandemic crisis, having made its services available to the government to implement the NOVISSI aid program—a program intended to establish universal revenue across Togo to support its people through the crisis.
Tigo Pesa started in 2010 as a remittance product and has expanded over the years to become a fully-fledged financial services provider with multiple products ranging from micro loans, saving products and insurance among other services. Tigo Presa prides itself in bringing innovation to the Tanzanian market and has launched several best-in-class services including interoperability and cross border money transfer with currency conversion.
NextA is the first-ever privately owned startup incubator in sub-Saharan Africa; fully dedicated to youth and entrepreneurs. NextA's vision is to facilitate the shaping of an entrepreneurial landscape that fosters collaboration and solidarity; an environment that will allow businesses of all sizes to thrive.
FINTEKO is a new AXIAN subsidiary that will bring all of the group's Fintech activities under one umbrella, namely Free Money, TMoney, MVola Madagascar and MVola Comoros). Finteko will deploy its services across the continent from the 2nd quarter of 2021 onwards. The first operations will land in Western and sub-Saharan Africa.
